OK it is after firing. I suspected a rich mixture also. Just curious why it would develop on its own. My experience has been that once the carbs are set they stay there. I do have a color tune and do

I'm fairly new to SUs, so no expert, but maybe a worn jet? Do the dampers fall and make the nice "clunk" when you push them up? (I know that you have checked the damper oil....). But check the timing

I know Paul A. knows more about these cars than I ever will...so with his advice, I'd certainly check this out. But Paul: Why would an air leak in the exhaust cause an afterfire??

I've had the same problem (back firing out of the exhaust) on decelleration, but it's gotten much worse lately. I've also started losing power and sputtering when travelling at speed for any duration
