I'm installing a set of rebuilt SU carbs and I'm getting a lot of backfire on over-run (i.e., take foot off accelerator pedal and let engine slow car). Is this a symprom of too lean or too rich? I do

Not necessarily, remember that pulling the choke also moves the throttle stop to raise the idle a bit. So you are also not "overrunning" as much, you are only partially releasing the throttle if the

Back firing on overrun could be caused by an air leak at the inlet manifold, which is weakening the fuel mixture. Pulling the choke compensates for the extra air being pulled in. Guy
