Last year I did an engine rebuild on my '75B. All parts replaced, as well as the oil pump. Within 3 months a terrible shreeking sound started coming from the motor but only when it was cold. As the c

My first thought was a slipping belt to the alternator. I've had several cars that, when belts begin to slip, emit a loud squeal. A slowing alternator might cause your dimming lights. -C -- _________

If it was the belt to begin with, it may have been damaged. The belt could have had smooth spots burned into it. If so the belt will need to be replaced. You can check the belt visually. Look at the

Sure sounds like the belt that drives the alternator, as mentioned. It might be slipping on other pulleys though, so check out the belt to be sure. Can you recreate the squealing while under the bonn

Hi, I agree with Chris and Joe..the belt is not transmitting the load through the alternator..A way to test this theory..a "hands on" aproach, is to let the engine make its' noise for a minute at id

I'll bet it's a bad bearing in the alto or some other component starting to seize up. If it were the water pump, I would expect it to leak before seizing up, so I think it's the alternator or smog pu
