One possibility that I have not seen addressed in the subject thread is the 'drainage' usually caused by the solid state controls in the alternator. I seem to remember reading about what is called 'p

Hello group - I'm about to diagnose a severe battery drain problem and want to make sure that I am approaching it correctly. If I attach an ohm meter in series between the + battery post and the + ca

Seems like your approach will work. I would first remove the fuses one at a time. This would lead you to the group of circuits. Then work each wire one at a time. Vic Whitmore 76 Spitfire Thornhill,

I had a similar problem like this with another make car and the culprit was a trunk light that would not go off when the trunk lid was closed, because of a bad switch. Since the light was on inside t

You should use an ammeter to sense current flow, not an ohmmeter in your troubleshooting quest for this gremlin (no AMC pun intended!). I'm sure that's what you meant to say, anyway.

Good observation, but I think nowadays almost all meters are multimeters so the application is correct. I can't think of any portable meter I've seen made in the post-bakelite era that isn't a multim

This is true, but they also have function switches on them, to switch between voltage, current, and resistance measurements. Hooking up an ohmeter this way may or may not damage the meter, depending

What may seem like a picky point should be a point well taken. While most multimeters may well be both ohm and amp meters the desired function is as an ammeter. Misstating the function might mislead

(snip) *do not do this* with the VOM on resistance scale, or a large current flow may nuke your VOM- your multimeter may have a current scale and it's probably protected against being toasted, but t

As an aside, this is a better tactic on a modern car than it is on an LBC. In cars with 300 fuses, you can narrow it down to a few components and wires. But with LUCAS, you can narrow it down to "the
