All you can really check on the overdrive is if the solenoid is pushing in the rod it moves or not. Usually this is not a problem unless there are electrical problems (which there obviously have been

You will want to look at Kai's page on making a jig to rotate the input shaft (a great help) http://www.pil.net/~felix/tools/st0001-kmr.html he also give a lot of information on the bench test method

Do you mean the fuel pump wouldn't run continuously? Are you sure it isn't just filling the carb and shutting off, the way it's supposed to? If so, check the pump ground. That's the most common cause
