Hi guys, Roger Williams new book "How to Improve TR5,250 & 6" makes mention of some Toyota 4 pot calipers from a 4 wheel drive pickup circa 1979-1983 that are a direct replacement for the calipers on

This upgrade was covered very concisely in the VTR website. Look under the maintenance section. Brake Bleeding If this link doesn't co

I did this conversion to my '71 and am very pleased. As I recall the calipers are from the 4WD gas pickup. Installation was easy. Use the later, larger diameter, TR6 bolts to attach the calipers. Th

Fine, if all you are looking for is upgraded pads. If you want additional stopping power I suggest you consider making the switch to Toyota 4 pots on the front and Alfin drums on the back. Or if you

What's up with the cross-drilled rotors? I thought they were a throwback to the past when pad material was awful and you needed the holes to get rid of the debris? Also, doesn't cross-drilling result

No, it is not a throw back but it does make a significant difference in stopping. These are used in racing all the time. I doubt seriously that they use inferior pad material.

Actually they are supposed to reduce fade. Fade is created by a gaseous build up between your pad and rotor from excessive temperatures while braking. The cross drilled holes allow two things. The ev

I'm not sure that the Alfins (or 240Z) finned aluminum drums are oversized. They fit with stock pads. All they offer are light weight and cool looks. The aluminum probably disperses heat more readily

The 240Z al-fin drums are basically 9 inch drums cast in aluminium with steel inserts (cast in, e.g. non replacable). As Shane implies, the advantage is lower unsprung wieght and better heat dissapat

Unless you've got a sponsor with deep enough pockets to replace your cross-drilled rotors regularly stick with grooved rotors. The cross-drilling promotes cracking. Ed in NC -- Ed Conen - Raleigh NC

I Agree, I had a Camaro wreck right in front of me at Road Atlanta when his cross drilled rotor broke. That was the easiest pass I ever made on a V8 car (they HATE to get passed by TR6's)! Mike Munso
