Not silly at all. Good thinking, really. The best way to keep them in as-new condition is to keep them out of the sun. Of course, this requires a garage (expensive), or a car cover (relatively cheap)

It sounds like you are folding the windows into the top frame when you are lowering it. STOP DOING THAT!!! (OOPS! Didn't mean to yell.) When you start to fold down the frame, pull the entire hood mat
