- Just a random thought, Dick... Is the alternator indicator bulb "good" and/or hooked into the system? Are you sure? I ask because a sure sign of an unproductive alternator (bad diode) is a lit altern

- Check the alternator, idiot light bulb. That light's needed to excite the alternator fields at start up. When light goes out, alternator should be charging fine. IMPORTANT!! Alternator equipped cars,

- Unplug the alternator wire from the back and hook up a volt gauge or tester to it. You should have 14.8 volts + or - coming off the large terminal. -- Frank Clarici Toms River, NJ
