I can't speak for any other country, but I can say for sure that the smog gear was NEVER painted in the USA from the factory. The air rail and gulp valve were Cadmium plated and the airpump was bare

Eastwood has a 2 or 3 step kit for recreating the plated look. Never tried it but if you REALLY want the plated look it sounds right. Carl

Oh yes, they did. Emissions control was required starting in 1968, 1967 in California. It is possible that air pumps were not required until 1969, but definitely then. This is in the USA, of course.

I believe your statement would be correct only if you were referring to a car built prior to October 1967 that was registered (or titled) as a 1968. All "real" 68s - starting with engines numbered 1
