How much can be safely removed from a wetliner engine block before having problems with finding figure 8 gaskets that will work? Is it safe to take .005" to .010" off? Thanks Brad 1957 TR3 vintage ra

Mordy can sell you thinner gaskets to replace the figure 8's. If you take 5 or 10 off you'll be fine, but I think the real problem is finding somebody to do the job right. I don't think they can ref

Hi bob, I knew about Mordy's thinner gaskets and will order as needed. Thats interesting about the deck of the block not being parallel to the bottom. If that's true I wonder how the did the machinin

Joe, thanks for the feedback. I think I'll have them deck it max .010" and see how things look. Like you said I can make the liners fit if needed and pistons as well. First time I've built a wetliner

I have 15/1000 in. off of my block. I still use the "stock" steel figure 8 gaskets, but have to machine the bottom sealing area of each liner on my lathe to get the right height. I also have to take

The problem is indexing the mill to the bottom of the cylinder. If they get a little off the block will be slanted one way or the other and you'll blow head gaskets. They are not likely to be too far

Bill, wouldn't the bottom of the cylinders be parallel to the top of the block and the bottom of the block? I would think in the interests of machining at the factory all of those surfaces would have

I can make thinner or thicker fig 8 gaskets. I see the problem as ... 1) decking the block assuming you can jig up properly. 2) by decking the block .010" -It is obvious that the piston height will c

I'd consider decking the block a last resort for a really screwed up block. If you just have minor dings I'd try almost anything else first, including a little light file work and a swipe of JB weld.

Just out of curiosity (as the block in my now wrecked TR3A appears to have been cut wrong by the factory) ... is it impractical or impossible to cut the liner seats deeper in the block ? Randall

If the machining experience I've had in my previous life means anything, it would really be a challenge for a machinist to set up the block so that the counterbores for the bottoms of the liners are
