I had a generator and it generally sufficed. When it ate a bearing, I replaced it with an alternator mostly because it was cheaper. I also had a dead regulator in the junk box, which helped the decis

A generator can work just fine. In my experience, it depends on teh adjustment of the regulator. My generator used to undercharge, then I adjustaed it and it overcharged and the battery spits batter
