Well, yeah, without going to a capacitive discharge (long spark) system like an MSD, you can run a super coil (I use the hot Lucas one) and hotter plugs and get a little more bang. Some folks index t

Interesting points. I'll gun them down one at a time (just kidding!) The point about ignition (detonation is a bad word here) at the optimal moment is mute because the pertronix has nothing to do wit

Jeff Zurschmeide, I bow to your expertise, though I of course wouldn't know about points bounce above 6500 rpm as I don't run that high (yet!). So, indexing is to set the plug gap into the _middle_ o

I saw something on "TNT" awhile back, about engine builders. This guy was using spark plug shims, made for this purpose, to get all the electrodes aligned within a few degrees. He claimed a few extra

I can't see how indexing the plugs would help. If you want an earlier spark you just advance the timing. Does it matter where the flame kernal starts? Surely it is the speed of the burn that counts?

Advancing the timing however advances ALL the cylinders. If one of your spark plugs has the electrode shrouding the intake stream, and one does not, the timing might be very slightly different betwee

It does affect the timing though. The switch is a lot more precise than the cam-lifting-the-points-open timing. Most noticeably, old distributors get loose bushings and uneven points cams. So the tim
