Time to upgrade to Wife 2.0? I would say that the safe approach is to drop the pan and replace the bearings. Not worth risking damaging the crank (if not already too late) IMHO. David Lieb

A really cheap way to check it out, is to install a new filter, filled first, and 3 or 4 qts of 20-50. Crank til oil pressure, then start it. If it's toasted, at least you've got clean oil everywhere
