I'm no expert (I've only had my car since '80,) but I think 80W oil is a no no in the gearbox. Kinda sticky in cool autumn weather I would think. Every manual I have ever read clearly calls for oil t

Hmm. The concensus here seems to be to use 20/50 or 30 weight oil. I'm just curious what you all think of the following statements, found on this web site: http://www.a-series.org.uk/inline_gearbox.h

My recollection, which is born out by the article at http://www.vtr.org/maintain/oil-overview.html would suggest that Gear Oil and Motor Oil use a different scale to measure viscosity. The chart on t

The manual says 20W-50 oil for the gearbox. But what do you recommend for a 40 year old tranny? I've got a ribbed cased tranny behind a 1275 in the bug-eye. Thanks. Jim Pickard B9473298 ('65 Tiger) A
