Hey List What is the easiest way to polarize the generator on a pos ground LBC? The only way I have ever done it was to use jumper cables to hook up the battery to the generator. Bill in MN 54 TR2

That is the safest way to do it but the easiest way is to remove the cover from the control box and momentarily close one of the control contacts. Which one I don't recall off hand the Lucas represen

Just a small wire will do, you don't need big jumper cables. Dave Massey replied : The cut-out contacts (which are the only ones that are open). Always worked fine for me. Best to do it with the eng

Which is my main concern. If you don't reopen the contacts you can get some excessive currents in a hurry. But idling the engine is a clever way to avoid the situation. Most engine powered back-up ge

With the engine stopped, if you manually close the cutout contacts, and don't open them again, they may stay closed and drain the battery through the generator. I'm not sure, the current may also be

The smoke in the wires escapes. Seriously, the field and armature circuits are connected (by the regulating contacts in the control box) and since the generator is not generating any voltage they bat
