Thanks everyone for your informative comments about vacumn advance and timing lights... I finished putting things back together at about 2am, and cranked it for a laugh. It heaved and ho'ed but would

Ok, here's the latest. No spark. Checked everything. Noticed that I hadn't wired the Magnetronic EI in properly. Fixed that, still no dice. I get 12V at the coil +ve. But when I take off the magnetic

And we're there! The damn thing actually started! It was a combination of a faulty Magnetronic unit, and even then, my inability to push the rotor arm down fully (oops!). What a feeling it is when it

Sounds like you screw in the stop light switch in until there is a 1/8 inch gap to the pedal so that the pedal can move 1/8 inch before actuating the switch. chuck

I have not messed with mine, but IIRC, the switch is activated when the pedal is OFF of it. So it would need to be in contact with the pedal for 1/8", just in case you barely touch it, the lights don

The idea is that the switch not prevent the mastercylinder piston from freely returning to its proper position. If you screw the switch in too far, you can prevent the residual pressure in the brake

I gathered that - just didn't see how free play came into it. Logic suggests that there is a point at which the switch is pushed in, but the piston isn't moved. This would seem to be the optimum loca

that 1/8" clearance does two things. It ensures that the switch does in fact release when you take your foort off the pedal. You do not want to drive around with the rear brake lights permanantly on
