Actually, my well of useless knowledge runs deep. Mazda will actually sell you a conversion kit to swap your Miata's 4-cyl engine with a 302. Or, so they told me when truck shopping last year. -- Mic

That is probably because Ford owns a healthy chunk of Mazda. An example of the conversion was tested in Car and Driver a couple of years ago. I don't really remember it too well but could dig it out
