I just went through this, and after rooting around in the supply room settled on Dow Corning High Vacuum Silicone Grease. It's clear, it's not petroleum based, it's nice and thick and it stays where

Same here, they switched to Krytox vacuum grease, so I use the old Dow Corning for the cars. Check local laboratory supply houses. They sell it as stopcock grease and it comes in different consisten
