By my calculations, this is a nut of no known recognizable size! I don't have a table of Whitworth nut sizes handy, and that is what it probably is. I have one of these pump units in my spare parts b

I don't have my car handy at the moment, but can't you just turn the body of the washer unit, from behind the dash, enough to loosen (or tighten) that nut? It seems like the friction of the nut again

Further to my last e-mail on this subject. I visited my local "country" garage this afternoon, and found out that a 1/4" BSW wrench fits the nut in question. Cheers John Slade

Hi John, the other thing to bear in mind is that the nut is intended only to hold a hand operated button in place and it is sufficient to tighten them with long nose pliers - were not trying to hold
