Ok this is probably a stupid question. How many miles do you need to drive a rebuilt engine before you switch to regular oil? How many times do you change the oil and filter in the first 1000 miles?

Well, I'm not 100% sure what the "proper" way to break in an engine is, but I've always known it as: baby the engine for the first 500 miles (no hard accels, and keep the cruising speed below 70mph).
