89 octane gas inherently has less energy content that higher octane.. but not enough to drop the idle so... I would second the idea that you have garbage in the tank, including but not limited to H2O

Thanks to all who responded to my octane query. I am currently trying 89 octane unleaded in my '68 B. It runs fine on the road, but 2 or 3 times lately it acts funny (ha,ha) when I pull in to my gara

Did you try a bit of Dry Gas? Maybe you picked up a little water with that gas. - -Mark = =o&o
