I rebuilt the motor on my 73 B last fall. Put about 2000 miles on the rebuilt motor and have noticed concerning oil consumption. the motor was entirely rebuilt with new rings, valves, bearing, gasket

When I had an MGB, I found that the oil level would rapidly drop from MAX to about half, but would then stay at half for a long time. I don't know why it did this, but another lister confirmed that

You might just be seeing a drop on the dip stick indicating that some of the oil is being held in the oil filter or other parts of the engine and not all in the sump. Ron Paul, When I had an MGB, I f

Remember, this is a British engine designed 50 years ago. Don't expect the low oil consumption of modern cars. IMHO - AFTER the rings have bedded in, anything over 500 miles per quart is OK. I keep s

I agree with your interpretation: a "decrease in manifold depression" sounds like it should mean less vacuum, BUT somehow that seems backwards to me. Wouldn't an INCREASE in manifold depression (i.e

The statement is correct, but it helps to look at it the other way round - as the vacuum *increases* the valve tends to *close*, so preventing too much vacuum on the crankcase sucking the oil out. Pa
