I could be wrong, but I always believed that hot-tanking would clear the oil galleries just as well. At least, that's what my machine shop told me...Anybody know for sure? -- Michael S. Lishego St. A

I would remove the plugs for two reasons. 1) after hot tanking the crud has to go somewhere. The easier you make it for it to leave the block the better chance you have to get it all out. Use gun cl

I think it is a good idea to remove the brass plugs before hot tanking for the same reasons as have been stated by the responses of others to your post. However, a word of warning and caution. Make

I would question this machine shops suggestion that you not clean out the oil galleries. THe plugs are readily available. You will find that after drilling out the plugs, and then hot tanking the bl

Actually, the 'hot tank' solution is a base (caustic) rather than an acid, at least at the shops I deal with. Dave Q.
