I have a '70 MGB where the positive lead to the coil is routed through the tachometer. Will an optical ignition unit such as the Crane XR700 require that I rewire the leads through the tachometer? Th

Thanks Rick, According to the schematic: www.cranecams.com/ignition1/wiredia1.htm the tachometer needs to be connected between ground and the negative terminal of the coil. The original routing for t

Good question Richard. Brainstorming: The tach uses an inductive pick up, I believe, as the ignition wire goes through a little loop inducing a pulse into the tach electronics. It seems then, that to

You may well need a module to drive your existing tach, or swap the tach for the later voltage-pulse type. PaulH.

In a word, No. I've hooked up severla Allison, Crane, Pertronix on circa 1970 Bs. Don't worry about the tach. Cheers, CR

That worked, and still does with my new Petronix ignition. So, if your tach bounces around a lot or reads too high, try this. Apparently the extra dwell time EIs provide can affect electric tachs, es

There's also a trim pot under a rubber plug on the back of the tach. This can be adjusted for sensitivity. I'd try that first. Cheers, CR
