Just for clarification, the gearbox and the OD *share* the same oil. Filling, level checking and topping-up is done at the gearbox, but whatever you put in the gearbox circulates round the OD as well

I don't know if there was any cause and effect, but on two separate occasions, after putting redline in my O/D tranny, the O/D died. After the second one, I replaced it with a Ford 5 speed conversion

strictly as a counter, i have a tranny where 1st and 2nd are "crunchy". redline made a huge difference, and the o/d still works after 2k miles.

Way back in 1986 I bought a Maserati Biturbo. The agency said Alfa, Porsche, or someone like that had had trouble with second gear being sticky - this they solved by using ATF, so my Biturbo got ATF.
