Anyone know why my overdrive might be not kicking in when the switch on the column is tripped? I have the later overdrive on my 74 1/2 and it had a good used switch installed when some sort of proble

Easiest to check is oil level. If that's fine, then do a pressure test. The J-Type (ie. later) OD requires >450psi to engage and stay on. If that pressure is not being generated then you can try rep

Hi Bob, Whoops, hit the send button accidentally... Check the oil level in the gearbox. I found when the oil gets low, it takes longer for the OD to engage as it uses the gearbox oil in the hydraulic

You could have a fluid level issue or an electrical issue. Could be the switch on the top cover is loose. Or some loose wiring behind the dash. I'd do the easy things first...wiring behind the dash

By all means, top off the tranny oil before you do anything else. A funnel and a long tube running from inside the engine compartment alongside the tranny and then into the fill port will eliminate
