while on the topic of paints.....what would be the recommended type of paint for the drums and the rear hubs? The body shop put some industrial primer on them (the same which was used on the frame)

My brother explained to me why I should not paint the drums or the inside of the wheel where it meets the drums. His reasoning is that paint is soft, and when tightening wheels it will act as a space

I use Duplicolor engine paint in whtever color suits me. For the brake drums and rear suspension pieces I use gloss black. For aluminum peices, cast aluminum. I like red for the rear lever shocks. En

I've painted brake drums on cars since the 60's and have never had a problem with wheels loosening for the reason your brother gives. If one properly torques the lug nuts to 80-90 flbs. I don't think

Hi Jim, I could mistaken, but I believe the "proper" torque for the stock TR6 wheels (well, the steel wheels anyway) is ~55 ft-lb. Or rather, that's the spec in the Bentley manual if I recall correc

My Bentley manual lists the recommended torque at 60-80 foot-pounds but the Haynes manual lists the torque at 55-60. My guess, and it's only that, is that most over-torquing problems are the result

80-90 ft/lbs is _way_ over tightened. I always tighten mine to 65. There is an article in one of the Moss publications by Ken Gillanders (of British Frame and Engine fame) that describes this syndrom
