As part of a rebuild of my 77 B engine I took the pistons out. How do I tell if the rings are worn and need replacing? The cylinders are in excellent condition, no scratches etc. Thank you in anticip

You can remove the rings , slide them into the cyl. they came from and with a feeler guage measure the end gap, Check the shop man. for proper distance . Carl E.

I would say, if you took the trouble to tear down the engine, you ought to go ahead and replace the rings (unless you know they have low mileage and you tore it down for a specific, unrelated problem

cylinders are in excellent condition, no scratches etc. Carefully remove the top ring from a piston. Put the ring into the cylinder about one inch down from the top. Check the gap at the the ends of
