A nice replacement steering wheel came in yesterday as the original one had virtually no rubber left on it. However the old hub (and shot horn slip ring contact) is still there because it's so tight.

I took the column out of my '77 and put it in a vise and then pounded the backside of the steering wheel with a 16 oz. claw hammer. Eventually the steering wheel popped off. Of course, I soaked it on

I have found that if you losen but leave the nut on the column and then with two hands pull back and forth violently on the top of the wheel, it pops right off. You don't want to pull or push hard as
