Opinions vary. Some say rock it violently i.e push down on the rim one side while pulling up on the rim the other side, reversing rapidly. Personally I've always got mine off by slackening the nut so

Are you sure you have to pull the wheel? On my 72' (admittedly possibly different) You take the screws out of the column plastic halves and the turn signal switch is screwed to the wiper switch. Thin

I had to pull the steering wheel anyway. I had to re-do the turn signal cancelation parts that I fabricated. A $9 puller from Checker, took about a minute. Not such good news for the wiper switch, it
