Yup, Seth's right, radar detectors are legal in CA. I had a Passport several years ago that I was pretty happy with. It did a pretty good job at detecting radar, and it did not have laser protection.

I don't WANT false alarms, I am just saying that it's a fair tradeoff - the protection part enables you to do some of the bad thing, where the false alarm part causes you to do more of the good thin
