That is exactly what I had to do, there was just no path through the newly-painted mounting brackets. You can either do the same with the fronts (CB only, RBs have a grounding wire) or do what I did

Have the places where the contacts are made cleaned anyway. If the state of the overriders are so bad - get replacements. Do not forget that the ground finaly is made through the bumper to the car. I
