I was assuming the tach didn't work because of the polarity change. Alan stated "Assuming tach was changed" and "the loop in the back" is this referencing a loop behind the tach or something changed

I think a better way to polarize the generator is to first connect the wire to the battery, then brush the generator terminal with it. This will keep the sparks away from the battery. Since batteries
