Try jumpering the rheostat, but also take apart and clean it, I found mine to be very corroded. I also fit uprated #50 Radio Shack bulbs and I can keep the restored rheostat down almost all the way a

If you REALLY want to bypass the rheostat all the ones I have seen have had two spades on each terminal, so you just move one of the wires over to the spare spade on the other side. But come on, sure
