It depends entirely on the individual club. Both CSRG and HMSA have a "strong recommendation" for a roll bar, but no specification as to its construction. Every car I've seen Peter Giddings drive had

I believe VSCCA is the only vintage race organization in North America that does not require roll bars. All other clubs do, as far as I know. I believe certain European clubs (notably VSCC in Englan

This point has been discussed ad nauseum at many CSRG board meetings. For certain old, pre-war cars, adding a roll bar would certainly radically alter their appearance and value as they never had one
