By no means an expert here but the 6 vs 12 sides should refer to the # of sides inside the ring end. ie-flats. The 6 sided should be the more expensive but also the better of the two because the fac

12 point more apt to get on a fastener in tight quarters, less space needed to turn. 6 point less likely to strip or round off a fastener. I use 12 point and don't have problems but others will have

I have found the 12 point will round out or slip on old beat-up nuts. I have both 6 and 12 and prefer the 6. Anything new I have been buying including sockets is 6 pt.. The only advantage 12 pt give

I can see a point for both. In some cases you need the limited turning radius of the 12 pt, in others you need the strength of the 6 pt. Where to draw the line?? I actually have both in the most prom
