Hi List, I have always driven my MGB, and other cars, in the following manner. Start from stop, rev up to what seems an appropriate level (usually 3500 or so in the BGT), shift, rev up to somewhere a

Yours are good driving habits - you've been shifting in the best part of a B's engine's powerband to give adequate power combined with reasonable fuel economy. The Saturn's shift light has, however,

Lawrie's answer sounds right to me. One more piece of information: Each engine has its own unique power range. The Miata, for example, peaks, I believe, around 1500 RPM higher than the B's powerband.

My daughter bought a new Saturn this year and the sales lady indicated that she personnally ignores the shift lights and that it is a fuel economy indicator only. Makes sense to me as I rarely shift

Lawrie is dead right. Those "shift lights" on new cars are completely idiotic, if you think of them as a "redline". My wife's Metro doesn't have a tach, but the light would have you shifting that 1.0

Dennis, after breaking in period of my B I bring it up to 3500RPM max. With the cam mod I have in my engine this seems to be the power peak of my engine. 6500 seems to me as abusive. If you keep doin

Just as a point of interest, the CBB driver's manual suggests keeping the revs below 4,000 and using part throttle in order to achieve best longevity and fuel economy. Nothing's changed except the RP
