The starter (non-preengaged) on my 3-main MGB gave up the ghost. Does anyone know if the starter from a 5-main (pre-engaged) will fit in it's place? Thanks Gerry

Nope. Not unless you change the engine rear plate and the flywheel... and the tranny. The starter is specific to the transmission (3-synchro or 4-synchro), not to the engine (3-main vs. 5-main). BTW,

As another has said, no, but as well as rebuilt inertia units there are also modern geared pre-engaged units about that *do* fit ... at a price. PaulH.
