- Worn starter brushes. If you can do it, check them for length and spring pressure. Otherwise, have a good auto electrical shop do it. I just went through the identical issue on my 80 LE. Regards, Lew

- Sounds a bit like a solenoid problem to me. If this "new" starter is a re-built. it is most likely that nothing was done to the solenoid if it worked at the time. You can remove starter, open it up,
