Everything is out of the car. The dash is refinished, and the new wiring harness is going in. Might as well replace the steering column bushings. Any tricks for removing the ignition switch mechanism

I have a signifigant amount of up and down play in my steering column. Can this be aleviated by merely tightening the upper clamp or is there a packing that may be needed? None of the repair manuals
