Sounds like two possible causes 1)universal joints at either end of the prop shaft need replacing or 2)worn splines on wire wheels and hubs both have a tendency to clunk during the operations you men

Also check the u-bolts that attatch the rear axle to the rear leaf springs. If they are loose it will cause the noise that you describe. A good way to check this is to put the car in gear and have s
