Anybody know exactly what the hole in the top of the a-series gearbox is designed for? You know, the oval shaped one just behind the rear of the cylinder head. Does it need to be there?

I don't know what it's purpose is but several of mine have a rubber bung in

I always thought it was for any resident mice to have a look in, in order to check the timing marks on the flywheel. Humans might have to use a mirror, when the unit is in situ. LOL Ron Corry, 1, Ca
