It occurred to me what causes the trailer sway cycle - The tail of the trailer sways to the right , the trailer becomes a lever with the trailer tires as the fulcrum - The hitch is pushed to the left

Yes it is a bit difficult to apply trailer surge brakes while accelerating ;-).... I uses to have a trailer with surge brakes and while I never really had problems with it, I had to be very careful
