I use 80w-90 GL4 gear lube with my TR4 gearbox fitted with A type overdrive. The overdrive clutches have run more than 80000 mls and are still working. So from my point of view this oil is the right

I would recommend a part synthetic to GL5, usually these are 75w-90. The gear oil in an overdrive car is doing a huge amount of work and should be as good as you can get. John Kipping -- Original Mes

But GL5 has a lot of additives that are not suitable to the clutch of the overdrive. GL5 is used in heavy duty rear axles and LSD's. I use GL5 only in my rear axle. Chris as
