Yes, they apparently can not tolerate high charging rates. But it confuses me. Your charging system will be happy to dump MANY amps into the battery very happily. The Optima company does not say any

They do, actually. If you dig around on their web site, you'll find where it says there is no limit on alternator capacity, as long as the alternator is regulated to 15.0 volts or less. And that the

AHA! This makes much more sense to me. I suppose the high rate chargers (i.e. not alternators) may run at a higher voltage then the automobile alternator. What is the nominal output voltage of a mod

Yes, definitely. The peak voltage of even low rate chargers is higher than the alternator. It's a curve, varies quite a bit with temperature. ISTR 14.6 @ 70F is about right, but I won't swear to tha

Quite the contrary, the major concern about fast charging a lead-acid battery is the breakdown of water into oxygen and hydrogen. On the road these gasses will be swept away by the breeze passing thr

Not completely relevant .. but I can speak of problems with battery chargers and being very careful with the old style batteries ... I now remove the caps, not completely, just loose because once upo
