Am now building a new dash for my spitfire. What do you do for wiring? Use the stock wires, or build a new setup just for racing. If possible a wiring diagram would be nice. Thanks Dick Ross

I'd be happy if my car had fuses! This race car has probably been wired by 3-4 people, each doing their own thing.

Most racers build a new setup just for racing, with more attention to simplicity, reliability and in some cases redundancy than the stock harness provides. Big, positive, (ugly) toggle switches inst

I'll suggest tossing the wiring harness and starting from scratch. If it is a "real" race car, the only circuits you need would seem to be 0. Cut off switch ( Oh boy, remember that discussion? ) 1. I

It was a simple answer for me -- I just let Tom Strange make a custom wiring harness for me. I figured if Gulfstream lets him wire their airplanes, my little race Spit should be fine. Plus, the job h

Yup, You talk nice to Tom Strange and he will build you the most beautiful harness I have ever seen. All aircraft wire, great connecters, quick disconnects on the fuel pump, and great switches (Scott

Aircraft Spruce should be your friend when doing wiring. For switches...use aircraft switches that are sealed. For wiring...I used aircraft wire for connectors...I used the double crimp style by AMP

I could be all wet, but I wouldn't think you'd want fuses in a race car except maybe for non-essentials like lights. Seems to me replacing a wire or even the whole harness after the race would be be

In place of fuses, it is probably a good idea to use aircraft circuit breakers that can be reset by just pushing them in. They are very tolerant to heat and vibration. Joe I could be all wet, but I w

While on the subject of wiring. Does anyone do anything special with the fuel pump, so that it will not continue to pump in the event of an accident? I know there are switches that will turn it off w

Larry, I have a push-to-reset impact cutoff switch in line with my pump, got it from Pegasus I think. Also should go through the kill switch on the dash or outside of car. Mark Weathers
