It's difficult for me to see why just sitting would somehow prevent a wheel from being made true. If the wheel is straight and the spokes are in good shape, there shouldn't be a problem. I would rec

One thing a person might consider if rebuilding wire wheels is to use stainless spokes. I met a guy at Healey Club party once who has a pre-war large MG saloon. He used all stainless spokes. He says

The Dayton "chrome" wheels for most cars listed in British Wire Wheel's brochure (including Cobras) have chrome rims/hubs with stainless spokes. Roland

The real issue with chrome spokes is that the chroming process causes some hydrogen embrittlement of the metal, making the spokes more likely to break. This alone makes stainless spokes worth it, in
