The plugs will operate more efficiently if you swap the wires. If you do it with the ignition switched 'OFF', you should be able keep all of the smoke inside of the wires. -- Bud Krueger http://home

This makes sense to me but why did it work the other way with the old coil for the time I have owned it?

The operative phrase is 'more efficiently'. The ignition will still work with reversed polarity (in a conventional points system), it's just that the electrons prefer jumping the spark plug gap in t
