The very first thing I'd check for is slop and maladjustment of the throttle linkage. If you are only getting a max 3/4ths-4/5ths throttle or something like that due to bad adjustment of the linkage

My first Healey was a BN4 that originally did not come with overdrive. When I got it it ti had a BT7 engine/overdrive in it. That car was fast with mild cam enhancement, balanced and bored 40+. The c
