They aren't really rivets. They are nails with a slight spiral. Slide a thin tool under the plate, near the fasteners and pry it up. They just slide right out. _______________________________________

The rivets have a threaded shank and can be removed like a screw. File or grind a flat on top of the rivet and then cut a slot in it for a screwdriver. A Dremel tool works well for this. Mine turned

The rivets are hardened steel and are difficult to drill without the drill wandering. Try using a very hard punch to form a starting point with your drill bit then start with a small sharp drill bit
